For spring 2024, Gabriele Colangelo continued his exploration of demi-couture with a strong collection of feminine tailoring concealing and revealing the body, and interesting fashion-meets-fiber-art embellishments.
The Milan-based designer shows his na mesake line in Paris; he’s also creative director of China’s Redstone Haute Couture-owned Giada brand, which shows in Milan.
“It’s nice for me to have the separation,” Colangelo said, sharing that he was inspired by French textile sculptor Aude Franjou to bring aspects of fiber art into the collection, including twisty tubular necklaces.
“She works a lot with tubular shapes that she puts around trees, and I was thinking to translate this concept around the feminine body,” he said, pointing out a sleek citron green coat with a deep-V back, embellished with a yellow corded necklace.
“I like to reveal the body but not in the typical way,” he said.
Interior wire shaped the hem of a pale green sleeveless top, creating suspended volume over a matching pencil skirt, while a citron knit corset waistband added interest to a pair of tailored cream tweed pants worn with a cellophane-like button-down shirt.
A caramel-hued satin halter top with a waterfall shoulder capelet had real diva drama over matching satin pants, while the navy blue lace-like raffia embroidery on a sleeveless tunic made a modern feminine statement.
